Share your interest in Marathi matrimony and connect with families as our community grows.
Marathi matrimony is built on a rich cultural foundation that stretches back over a thousand years, rooted in the traditions of Maharashtra and the Konkani coast. When Marathi families seek a life partner for their son or daughter, they look beyond appearances — they seek compatibility of values, respect for tradition, and the blessings of Lord Ganesha, who is invoked at the very start of every Marathi wedding ceremony.
VivahSphurthi welcomes Marathi matrimony enquiries and registrations from families across Maharashtra and the Konkani coast, including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Kolhapur, and Marathi-speaking families abroad.
Our Vedic kundali matching system evaluates the 8 Ashta Kootas — from Varna to Nadi — giving you a detailed compatibility picture before you proceed. For Marathi families, gotra matching is particularly important in Brahmin communities, and our platform makes this easy to filter.
We also welcome enquiries from Marathi families living outside Maharashtra and abroad. New members can use mobile and email verification, with optional document verification for added trust.
Every Marathi wedding begins with a prayer to Lord Ganesha — the remover of obstacles. The Ganesh puja is mandatory and sets the auspicious tone for all rituals that follow.
A sacred white cloth (antarpat) is held between the bride and groom. At the auspicious muhurtam moment, the cloth is removed and the couple see each other for the first time as husband and wife.
Turmeric (haldi) is applied to both bride and groom in a pre-wedding ceremony. Kelvan (wedding feast) is an elaborate celebration bringing families and communities together over traditional Maharashtrian cuisine.
The groom ties the mangalsutra (sacred necklace) around the bride's neck — the central symbol of Marathi marriage. The Saptapadi (seven steps around the sacred fire) seals the union with Vedic vows.
Priests recite the eight sacred Mangalashtak verses as the bride and groom exchange garlands (varamala). This poetic blessing is unique to Marathi weddings and is sung in Marathi.
Auspicious wedding dates are selected from the Maharashtra Panchangam. Preferred months: Vaishakha (April–May), Jyeshtha (May–June), and Margashirsha (November–December). Brahmin families consult a jyotishi for exact muhurtam.
